The reporter has known: the 3-day “2009 Traditional Medicine International Science and Technology Conference & Expo” was held in Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center on November 9th.

The conference was jointly sponsored by 14 ministries including Ministry of Technology, Ministry of Health, China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, State Food and Drugs Administration, Guangdong Province People’s Government and World Health Organization (WHO) and undertaken by Guangdong Province People’s Government. The conference also set 9 branches including the traditional medicine development forum, traditional medicine basic theory research. Vice Chairman of the Chinese Political Consultative Conference and Minister of Technology Wan Gang, Vice Minister of Health and Chairman of China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine Wang Qiang gave speeches in the conference.

After 10 years of construction, China has constructed 20 Chinese herb technical industry bases, in 2008, the total output value of Chinese medicine industry and Chinese herb reached RMB217.489 billion and RMB57.518 billion. “Chinese medicine is our precious traditional wealth, the application and development prospect and space of Chinese medicine are also enormous”, it was pointed out in the conference. In addition, Wan Gang also mentioned that traditional medicine, including Chinese medicine, was important and irreplaceable for assuring the health of human beings, and China would strengthen technical innovation, powerfully promote the modernization and internationalization of Chinese medicine for benefiting the entire world.

At the same time, in the branch with the theme of: “Reviving the External Therapy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Developing Green Medicine”, the experts from China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine and China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine and representatives of the enterprises who have outstanding achievements in the application and industrialization of Chinese medicine also had warm discussion and communication.
